Google’s smartwatch operating system, Android Wear 2, is finally beginning to rollout to smartwatches everywhere. In fact, almost every smartwatch powered by Android Wear will be able to run Android Wear 2. That’s good news for many smartwatches, as the new platform brings with it a host of new features. Let’s take a look at some of the best new features of Android Wear 2.
If there is one thing that many users complained about with first generation smartwatches, it was complicated. There were many different features and you had to press and hold, swipe, tap once for all sorts of controls. There were so many, it got pretty tough to remember what to do.
With Android Wear 2, Google has made things much easier to navigate. Swiping left and right changes watch faces, swiping up gets you your notifications, and swiping down adds a settings section. Everything is easy to remember and takes only minimal interaction to access, something that everyone that uses a smartwatch will definitely appreciate.
Customizable Watch Faces
Android Wear has always supported third party watch faces, and they were great. However, often you could never find a watch face that really worked just the way you wanted it. It was always missing something you needed or you it didn’t sit just right on your smartwatch screen.
Now, you don’t have to use third party faces to customize what you see on your watch. With its customizable features, you can create a watch face that is perfect for you. You can change the layouts, edit the colors, change basic faces and much more. This allows you to create a watch face that is exactly what you want and need.
Third Party Complications
On top of being able to customize your watch faces, Google has also created a way for you to add third party complications to your customized watch face. That means that you no longer have to go with a full watch face to access a cool complication from one third party company. Now you can add that one small complication to your custom watch face and access everything you want.
Apps without Your Phone
Finally Android Wear has cut the cord. Now you can find stand-alone apps for your smartwatch right on the Google Play store without having to use your phone. While your smartwatch powered by Android Wear is still a great partner for your phone, you can still find tons of functionality without it.
If there is one thing that Android Wear lacked, it was decent messaging options. Now with the new Android Wear 2, you can customize even more messages or reply with your voice right on your wrist. If you need better ways to message using your smartwatch, then this update is definitely for you.
These are but a few of the great new features that have come with the next version of Android Wear. Android Wear 2 looks to be a huge update and if it runs as well as it seems, many users will be very happy with the results. Are you looking forward to Android Wear 2?
