Samsung is almost as bad as Apple when it comes to keeping secrets about its upcoming products. But, as we all know, it’s tough to keep everything under wraps in today’s ever connected world. We do know that the company plans on releasing the Samsung Gear S4 sometime in 2017, but that’s about all we know so far. However, there are many rumors floating around that I feel we should address as it paints a pretty good picture about what we can expect from the Samsung Gear S3 replacement.
Samsung has already announced that they are ready to begin mass production of the Exynos 7 Dual 7270 processor in early 2017. That means that this processor is the most likely candidate to power the next generation smartwatch. This processor is faster than its predecessor and includes a smaller 4G LTE modem compared to the one currently in the S3. That means that the device can get smaller. Hopefully, this will translate into a much friendlier size of this watch compared to the S3, which has received some complaints about its bulk.
As far as the design goes, many currently believe that it will share many similarities with the S3, albeit in a slimmer package thanks to the new processor. Like the S3, you can expect multiple versions with different style bands to meet your needs and wants in both style and function.
Hopefully, as part of this upgrade, Samsung will continue to improve the software running on the smartwatch. Many agree that although it is bulky, the S3 is still stylish and feature rich but can be a touch problematic to use at times. Future improvements to the software should remedy this problem and you can probably expect the company to roll these changes out with the S4 while at the same time bringing the software improvements to the S3 as well.
Currently, the details about the Samsung Gear S4 are pretty sketchy, but we do know that the watch will hit store shelves sometime this year. When exactly that will be is anyone’s guess at the moment. Still, the S3 is a good watch but there are some design improvements that need to be made, and it appears Samsung plans to solve these problems with the next version of the smartwatch.
Samsung has a big year planned with the release of many new devices including the Galaxy S8 and the rumored Galaxy Tab S3. Also in the works are new Galaxy A series devices and even the Gear VR2 and Gear VR 3. Among these new releases you will also find the Samsung Gear S4 smartwatch, which should make a perfect addition to their new line of products in the new year. While we still don’t know too much about this device, if the processor is any indicator, we could end up with a powerful and slim device that will fit perfectly on anyone’s wrist.
